Board adopts resolution urging fair FCC review of KGO TV broadcast license

The Board of Supervisors on July 7 unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Federal Communications Commission to fairly evaluate and renew the broadcast license for KGO TV (ABC7). Supervisor Chan introduced the resolution and urged colleagues to cosponsor and to encourage public comment supporting the station’s license renewal.

Several supervisors praised KGO TV’s journalism and community reporting. Supervisor Dorsey said he would defend news organizations facing federal overreach and commended long-form reporting by KGO journalists; other supervisors added their names as cosponsors during the floor discussion. The clerk took the measure without reference to committee and the resolution was adopted without objection.

The resolution asks for fair evaluation during the FCC process and encourages public participation in any comment period. KGO’s president and general manager, David Wirtzel, addressed the board during public comment and expressed appreciation for the board’s support.
