Houston County to seek $500,000 CDBG for Hickory Grove Street resurfacing

The Houston County Commission announced plans to apply for a Community Development Block Grant to resurface Hickory Grove Street in the Cottonwood area.

Staff told commissioners the Southeast Area Regional Planning Commission is assisting the county with the CDBG application to fund resurfacing of Hickory Grove Street from State Highway 53 to Galbraith Road. "The Southeast Area Regional Planning Commission, Emily, is helping us, apply for a CDBG grant, to pay, resurface, growth Hickory Grove Street from State Highway 53 to Galbraith Road," a staff member said.

The Chair reported the total project cost at about $781,515, saying the county planned to request $500,000 from CDBG and provide a local match of roughly $281,515. Staff described this filing as a resubmission of an earlier application; award notifications are typically issued in January, the staff member said.

Commissioners did not object to placing a request to adopt a resolution authorizing the application on Monday's agenda. No formal vote on the grant was taken at the administrative meeting; the commission will consider the resolution at its Monday meeting.

Why it matters: A successful CDBG award would cover the majority of resurfacing costs for a local road serving the Cottonwood neighborhood; if awarded, the county must be prepared to provide the stated local match.
