Commission accepts two KDHE grants; health department outlines program updates and EHR work

David Adams, interim health department director, asked the board to accept two KDHE grants and then summarized a broad set of program updates.

The board approved a KDHE immunization award of $7,909 for fiscal 2027 that does not require a local match. Adams also presented a maternal and child health (MCH) KDHE award of $195,201 that requires a 40% local match; staff told the commission the match is already budgeted. "This grant does require a 40% match from the county, and that match is in the budget," Adams said.

Adams and other health staff detailed program activities including Raising Riley scholarships and outreach, childcare licensing follow-ups, home visiting and maternal-child home-visit services, naloxone and opioid education efforts, fit-testing for N95 respirators, pandemic-response plan updates, and continued work on an electronic health record migration. Staff also reported on a recent community baby shower that served more than 120 families and flagged seven open childcare facility complaints under review.

Commissioners voted to accept the grants by voice votes and asked staff to return with necessary documents; staff explained the MCH grant disbursements occur over quarters and requires timely reporting to the state.
