Elkton council hears staff updates on pocket park, water line and downtown projects

At its Jan. 5 reorganizational meeting, the Elkton Town Council received routine staff updates on several local projects and administrative matters.

Town Attorney Quinton Callahan said donation documents for a planned pocket park have been distributed to prospective donors and a possible land swap is under consideration. He said he is also working on violation and fines enforcement procedures, ordinance updates and an annexation agreement, and that litigation is ongoing regarding the Elkmont Manor tax assessment.

Community Development Director Delores Hammer reported the property across from the florist is awaiting county plan approval. Town Manager Greg Lunsford said the water‑line installation on Rockingham Street is expected to start at the end of January or in early February. Mrs. Hammer said she will follow up with Ranmar about the sitting wall at the Downtown Marketplace. Council members briefly discussed Christmas‑tree disposal procedures; no formal action was recorded.

Committee reports noted planning for America's 250th Anniversary and a scheduled ribbon‑cutting for Unearthed Homestead, LLC at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
