Early council hears landfill building replacement estimates; reopening expected in October or November

Council members learned on July 7 that the landfill building currently cannot be used and that trailers will be filled and stored outside away from the structure. Officials provided a cost estimate for replacing the building: approximately $313,265 for the structure, $100,000 for concrete work and $49,000 for electrical work.

Mayor Bill Cougill (speaking for the city) said the estimated re-opening of landfill operations under the new arrangements is projected for October–November. The council did not adopt a funding plan during the meeting; no bids or contract approvals were recorded.

Next steps include budgeting and formal procurement to replace the building and to determine funding sources; the council did not specify whether grant funds, reserves, or assessments would be used.
