Land-use committee approves convenience-store license, clears daycare request and discusses short-term rental ordinance changes

The Castle Dale land-use committee reported several decisions and policy discussions at the June 11 council meeting.

Land Use Administrator Kerry Lake said the committee approved a change to a convenience-store business license. The committee also reviewed a request to place an infant daycare/nursery near a Stewart’s location and, after consulting state law that infant daycare centers and nursery schools are not classified as community locations, granted the request.

Lake reported a lot-line adjustment next to the elementary school was re-recorded to satisfy a family trust requirement and filed with the county. The committee also discussed consolidating two short-term rental ordinances into one ordinance with specific wording for commercial and residential zones. Lake said the residential spacing requirement is currently 300 feet and may be changed to 500 feet; commercial zones would retain no spacing restriction. The committee raised relicensing and evaluation questions for properties sold that do not meet a revised spacing requirement.

The council did not take a separate formal vote on the ordinance language at the meeting; Lake recommended returning the two drafts to a single ordinance with distinct provisions for each zone.
