Courthouse title transfers automatically to Kent County after final bond payment, counsel says

At the June 10 meeting, Facilities Management Director Tim Bradshaw reported that the final bond payment for the courthouse was made on June 1. Assistant Corporate Counsel Jeannine Bolhouse said that payment fulfilled the building obligation and that ownership of the Courthouse automatically transferred from the Kent County Building Authority to Kent County.

Bolhouse added that legal counsel is working to refine terms of a new lease to allow the City of Grand Rapids to continue occupying the Courthouse. The transfer was reported as automatic upon bond payoff; the authority did not take further formal action on the transfer at the meeting.

Board members were notified of the transfer as part of the meeting’s administrative updates.
