Public works reports completed Anita Street drainage work and two small sewer problems found in smoke testing

At the July 6 meeting Mayor Rhodes read the public works report for June: the town recorded six rain events totaling 4.8 inches; smoke testing on several streets identified two small issues; crews repaired several subsurface drainage washouts and completed grading 175 feet of drainage ditch on Anita Street. "We had 6 rain events for 4.8 inches," Mayor Rhodes said.

Staff reported two minor SCADA alarms at lift stations and that a pump at the Horry lift station had been swapped out. The report also noted upcoming hurricane-prep work with the maintenance crew and a Waste Pro roadside debris pickup scheduled for July 13.

Council members asked whether the Anita Street grading performed well during a heavy storm; one participant said during a big storm "it was just blowing down there" and that there was no buildup, while others said the work held up and provided an improvement. The sewer project's punch list has not moved forward and staff said they will address retainage and contract finalization at a future meeting.

Employee service milestones were acknowledged (Eric: 21 years; Cindy: 2 years). No votes were taken; staff will return to the next meeting with updates on punch-list completion and any contract payouts.
