Wichita resident tells Sedgwick County commissioners he’s been targeted in alleged vehicle assaults, asks for help

A Wichita resident asked Sedgwick County commissioners for help after describing multiple nighttime incidents he said involved vehicles approaching his car with lights off and attempting to intimidate or ram him.

"Can't I get some protection also?" neighborhood leader George Theo Harris said during the public comment period, describing incidents beginning Sept. 15, 2025 and a second set beginning Nov. 13, 2025. Harris said he and his wife filed police reports and that, in his view, the complaints were closed without appropriate follow-up.

Commissioner Hill asked whether police knew the identity of anyone involved and whether the case had been presented to the district attorney. "WPD has the case," Hill said, and he noted the county's limited role in city police matters: "I'm not sure what role the county has in this... the city council has, of course, the authority over the police. Unlike the county, we don't have authority over the sheriff. He's an independent elected official." Hill offered to make inquiries on Harris's behalf but cautioned that charging decisions rest with law enforcement and prosecutors.

Harris said he believed officers had identified a person linked to the incidents but that the complaint had been closed after officers could not contact the suspect at the door. He said the situation has made his wife reluctant to visit Wichita.

The board accepted Harris's public comment and voted to receive and file public comments by a 4–0 roll-call vote. Commissioners did not direct formal county action beyond offering to make inquiries and noting jurisdictional limits between city police, the county and the independently elected sheriff.
