The Lyon County Regional Transportation Commission on July 9 authorized an increase of $572,721 in RTC funding so staff can procure a contract with Q&D Construction for the Industrial Park Rehabilitation Project in the City of Fernley.
City Engineer Salvador Pleitez told the commission the bid for the project was the only bid received and that it came in higher than the RTC’s original allocation. Pleitez said the board considered shelving the project and rebidding in the fall but opted against that approach because prices could rise further if delayed.
Comptroller Josh Foli clarified for the board that the single bid exceeded the RTC allocation and that the formal request before the commission was specifically to increase RTC funding by $572,721 to accept the bid and proceed.
Commissioner Albert Torres moved to increase the RTC funding, Commissioner Scott Huntley seconded, and the motion passed on a 4-0 vote. There was no public comment recorded on the item.
Next steps: staff will finalize procurement documents to execute a contract with Q&D Construction and return to the commission if any substantive change orders or additional funding needs arise.
