Board outlines e‑bike rules for students ahead of school year

Board member Miss Hope asked for an update on the district's e‑bike plan at the July 9 meeting. Dr. Burns said the district will provide messaging during the 30 days leading up to the first day of school and will share a list of approved course options for students to satisfy the policy requirement.

"Part of what we wrote into our policy was that they have to take a course," Dr. Burns said, adding that some courses cost money and some do not and that the district will provide options rather than a single required vendor. He also said the district's policy requires students to walk e‑bikes on campus rather than ride them: "They have to walk the e‑bike up. We're learning a lot about e‑bikes."

Dr. Burns said the district has a meeting with school leaders to finalize messaging and that the information will be shared with schools and on district social media before the school year begins. No formal policy vote occurred during the meeting; the remarks were part of board comments and operational planning.
