Pasadena offers free NOAA weather alert radios to eligible residents

The City of Pasadena is offering free NOAA weather alert radios to eligible residents in partnership with the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Rose City Report said. Residents who live in high fire hazard severity zones or in areas with limited cell service or frequent power outages are eligible to reserve a radio.

Officials said radios are available on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one per household. To reserve a radio and receive a pickup date and location, residents must complete an online registration form on the city website. "The city of Pasadena in partnership with the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is offering free NOAA weather alert radios to eligible residents living in high fire hazard severity zones or areas with limited cell service or frequent power outages," Abigail Montopoli said on the Rose City Report.

The announcement stressed that eligibility is tied to hazard zone status or known service limitations; the report directed residents to the city website for details and to check whether their home falls inside a qualifying zone. The distribution is described as a readiness and resilience measure; no pickup sites or dates beyond the reservation process were specified.

The city did not specify the total number of radios available or an end date for distribution. Residents with questions were instructed to visit the city’s online resources for more information.
