Clawson council approves minutes and passes FY27 budget as treasurer outlines finances

The Clawson Town Council approved the previous meeting minutes and voted to pass the fiscal year 2027 budget, officials said at the town's regular meeting.

Julie, the town's chief financial officer, told the council the budget as presented assumes a pending grant will be incorporated once the funds are received and recommended passing the May–June budget with no changes. "So we just recommend that we pass what we've discussed in May and June with no changes," Julie said. A council member moved to adopt the FY27 budget and the council gave assent by voice vote.

The council also accepted the treasurer's monthly report. Julie said the town moved some funds from savings to checking to cover incidental costs and that a pending invoice will be paid at month end. She reported $6,679 in the designated savings account and an expectation that insurance premiums may decline due to lower risk-assessment scores. "We might need to be paying attention; I'll be watching in the next 3 to 6 months to see if that trend goes further," Julie said.

Why it matters: approving a baseline budget keeps the town's operations funded while staff incorporate final grant dollars once received. Council members discussed monitoring reserve levels and prioritizing grant or B-and-C road funds for planned projects.

The meeting recorded routine procedural business including motions to approve the minutes and to accept the treasurer's report; all were adopted by voice vote. The meeting moved on to facility and program discussions after the finance items.
