Council agrees to replace damaged stop and speed-limit signs; estimates $4,724 for initial order

The Clawson Town Council approved ordering replacement traffic signs after a town inventory found several stop signs damaged, missing or faded and multiple speed-limit signs needing replacement.

A Committee member who surveyed town signage said, "Most of the stop signs looked terrible, and they were need replaced," and recommended seven stop signs and several 25 mph speed-limit signs be replaced with breakaway posts. The committee also provided an itemized estimate of $4,724 for the signs under consideration.

Members discussed using solar-powered speed-display signs with LED readouts but raised nuisance and brightness concerns for nearby windows. The council directed staff to confirm exact installation locations, determine required spacing between speed-limit signs, and place the order (staff noted potential lead times of months). The council agreed staff may order the signs and obtain any necessary site clearances or tree trimming prior to installation.
