Council to replace damaged stop and speed signs, considers LED speed displays

Jamie (presenting council member) reported that multiple stop signs around town are damaged, missing or lying down and recommended buying seven new stop signs, new breakaway posts, and several 25-mph speed-limit signs (including solar/LED speed-display units). "Most of the stop signs looked terrible, and they were need replaced," Jamie said. The presenter estimated the initial package at about $4,724 (before final count and adjustments) and noted breakaway-post requirements and LED brightness complaints in other towns.

Councilors discussed sign spacing, tree trimming to improve visibility at certain locations and the potential for LED displays to be too bright for nearby windows. Members agreed staff should finalize the list of signs, check spacing and ordering lead times, and proceed to order replacement signs given public-safety implications.
