Tomahawk council approves $860,231.87 in payments, adopts land conveyance resolution and approves library MOU

The Tomahawk Common Council on July 7 approved routine minutes and financial disbursements, adopted a resolution allowing the Community Development Authority to convey certain real estate, and approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Tomahawk Public Library.

Councilmember Patricia Haskin moved to approve the June 2 and June 16, 2026 minutes; Mike Loka seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The council then approved General Fund checks 119093–119193 and 19 electronic payments totaling $860,231.87, and payroll checks 53616–53693 plus direct deposits V15902–V16030 totaling $176,173.81. Mickey Loka moved to approve the payments; Jeff Kahle seconded and the vote was unanimous.

Mayor Hob Habeck reported on Planning and Zoning business, and Street Leadsperson Nick Rosenmeier said the Board of Public Works had passed the 2025 Compliance Maintenance Annual Report (CMAR) for the wastewater plant after a presentation by Zach Sherman.

Library Director Heidi O'Hare said the library summer program remains well attended, with over 100 participants on Thursdays, but she warned of staffing turnover: Youth Services Librarian Annette Miller will retire at the end of the year and two regular part-time employees are leaving because of relocation. Councilmember Steve Bartz asked whether the library—listed as a Lincoln County "cooling center"—had access to funding for HVAC upgrades; O'Hare said the designation "is only that their name is on the list, there is no funding that she is aware of."

Jennifer Turkiewicz of Tomahawk Main Street, Inc. asked the council to note several volunteers called out in the organization's newsletter and thanked Mary Smith "for working on getting the F-35 fly over on the 4th of July in honor of Dan Reiter." Jeff Kahle raised pedestrian-safety concerns, saying sidewalk space downtown is narrowing because of flower baskets, benches and sandwich boards and asked that sidewalks be kept clear.

On licensing matters, the council unanimously approved operator licenses and a premise revision for Mary's Hangout at 515 S. Tomahawk Ave for the Fall Ride. The council also adopted a resolution authorizing the Community Development Authority to convey certain real estate; the motion to adopt the resolution passed unanimously.

Donald Nelson moved to confirm Laura Reiter to the Library Board; Mickey Loka seconded and the appointment was approved. Nelson then moved to approve the MOU between the Tomahawk Public Library and the City of Tomahawk; Mickey Loka seconded and the vote was unanimous.

The council set its next regular meeting for Aug. 4, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
