At the July 9 meeting, a city staff member reviewed Ordinance 14 92, which City Council approved on May 11 to provide a $50 stipend to commissioners for each commission meeting they attend.

The staff member said the stipend is intended to offset meeting-related expenses such as gas or child care. "For each meeting each commission meeting you attend, you will receive a stipend small compensation of $50," the staff member said.

A commissioner summarized the rule in discussion: the threshold is either "1 3 absences or 20% or more of the regular meetings within a 12 month period, whichever is greater," and staff clarified that the measurement is a rolling 12 months rather than a calendar year.

Staff explained the administrative steps for payment: commissioners must sign an attendance sheet at the meeting so staff can submit records to accounts payable; stipend checks will be mailed to the commissioner mailing addresses on file.
