County signs off on Brightspeed change order after vendor credit reduces device costs

Richland County commissioners on July 9 approved change orders to a Brightspeed contract after county staff reported the vendor would issue a $3,001.68 credit for devices that had been misquoted earlier.

A county staff member said Brightspeed re-quoted service for each county building and agreed to the credit to offset the cost of devices that connect legacy fax machines and other equipment to the new fiber service. Staff reported a quoted device cost of $4,520.98 and said the credit would leave the county responsible for roughly $1,500, which the county planned to pay upfront to own the equipment rather than rent it monthly.

The board discussed the re-quote, asked staff clarifying questions about recurring charges and ownership, and approved the change orders. County officials said the monthly recurring charge would not change, and the device purchase was a one-time buy to avoid ongoing rental charges.
