Port Barre council considers possible agreement with ICE; vote deferred to August

Mayor John P. Ardoin and the Port Barre Town Council discussed a possible Memorandum of Agreement between the Port Barre Police Department and Immigration and Customs Enforcement during the July 7 regular meeting.

Chief Boudreaux presented the proposed MOA's procedures, terms and the possibility of receiving funding through the arrangement. Mayor Ardoin and other council members raised questions about how the agreement would operate and its implications for the town. The mayor said he will meet with the Louisiana representative of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Chief Boudreaux to review details; the item will return to the council for a recorded vote at the August meeting.

The exchange in the meeting focused on procedural and policy questions rather than a decision. The council did not take a vote on the MOA at this session; Mayor Ardoin described a follow-up meeting with the ICE representative as the next step.

The discussion was announced as an agenda item for further review; no contract was executed or authorized at the July meeting.
