Council approves $13,400.38 change order to repair corroded north silo at Richmond water treatment plant

The Richmond City Council approved Olsson’s Change Order No. 2 for repairs at the city’s Water Treatment Plant during the Nov. 12 meeting, authorizing City Administrator Tonya Willim to sign the order. The change order addresses a corrosion and fit issue discovered by the welding team on Oct. 29, 2024.

Welders found the existing base angle of the plant’s north silo was out of round, preventing proper welding of the new steel plate (Change Order No. 1). Olsson engineers proposed cutting away the existing skirt, installing an additional steel plate to reinforce the structure, and fully welding the circumference to prevent further water intrusion, the stated cause of the corrosion. The council approved the change order in the amount of $13,400.38 by an 8-0 roll call vote.
