Commission hears Plots To Plates garden update; Northview Christian Church to lead food drives

Amanda summarized the Plots To Plates community garden behind Carmel Middle School: it began in 2012, expanded to 119 plots (most 4 by 15 feet), includes accessible plots for gardeners using wheelchairs, and receives in-kind support from Carmel Clay Schools (mulch, pumps, a shed). Amanda said plot applications run January–April, current plot holders tend plots and a waiting list exists of roughly 12–15 people; three plots once served pantry donations but volunteer decline reduced that to zero. "The garden plots have expanded and today there are 119 plots," Amanda said.

Chair (S1) announced that Northview Christian Church has committed to run food collection drives for the commission, including handling logistics, transportation and storage. Commissioners discussed options for collection timing and locations (concerts or Saturday mornings) and asked members to begin designing what the commission requests from donors. The commission also discussed inviting school-nutrition staff (Jennifer), Meals on Wheels and Prime Life to a future meeting to discuss school kitchens, senior feeding programs and possible temporary kitchen access.

The meeting ended with the Chair asking commissioners to think about next meeting topics and adjournment.
