Red Clay consolidated school district station manager Moises Velasquez told the Wilmington Cable, Video and Telecommunications Commission on April 24 that EdTV produces original, student-centered programming but operates with a small staff and limited resources and is seeking help to upgrade broadcast quality.
"Our goal here at Red Clay is to create original programming that educates, informs, and inspires all of our viewers across the community," Moises Velasquez said, listing shows including the Book Nook, The Good Stuff, Red Clay Cook Off, Project Soapbox and an Education Station that repurposes student content for broadcast and social media.
Velasquez said the station is self-funded by the district and currently operates with two staff members. He asked the commission whether funding assistance could be considered to move the channel from its current 720p distribution to 1080p, noting higher resolution would improve program quality and distribution as channel 28 moves to an RFP process.
Commissioners thanked Velasquez and had no immediate vote or formal action on an upgrade or funding commitment. Velasquez said Red Clay will continue producing original content and seeking partnerships with schools and community groups.
