Commission approves revised South Street home after neighbors and architect reach compromise

The Old Kings Highway Regional Historic District Commission approved a revised application for a new single‑family house at 43–49 South Street after the applicants and nearby residents worked together to simplify the design.

Thomas Moore, representing the owners, said he met with neighbors and reduced trim, lowered a front gable by about a foot and changed dormer forms to make the house more like a Cape-style design. Neighbor Mary Kurtz of East Dennis described a collaborative meeting with the architect and called the submitted changes acceptable, while asking the applicants to take care of the existing rock wall on the street-facing side.

Board members confirmed the house would be sited as previously shown, that the application includes an accessory dwelling unit, and that the property had been staked for committee and conservation commission review. A committee member moved to accept the application as submitted; the motion was seconded and approved.
