Historic commission approves multiple residential solar projects across Dennis

The Old Kings Highway Regional Historic District Commission approved a series of residential solar applications presented during the meeting, citing the town’s exempt‑area policy that allows greater flexibility for front‑facing panels in neighborhoods south of Situcket.

Manny of Sun Rent Solar described a 26‑panel installation for 5 Dons Way covering all four roof faces. "We are asking to install 26 solar panels on the home," he said, adding panels and equipment would be positioned so most equipment is hidden off the primary street view.

Mikaela of Trinity Solar presented a 20‑panel, 8.2 kW system for 38 Alexander Drive (11 front‑facing panels), and other representatives described larger systems at 69 Mayfair Road (34 panels, about 13.94 kW), 79 Kingswear Circle (40 panels, about 16.4 kW) and 32 Barry Lane (20 panels, 8.2 kW). Commissioners repeatedly noted that properties south of Situcket and away from Route 6A fall within an exempt district where the commission routinely approves front‑facing solar when visibility and materials are acceptable.

Each application was moved, seconded and approved without recorded opposition.

Why it matters: The approvals reflect the town’s accommodation of rooftop solar in certain residential areas while the commission balances visual concerns within the historic district.

What’s next: Applicants will pursue building and electrical permits; approvals are subject to any conditions the commission or town permitting offices impose.
