Shrine club buys roughly 133 pool passes for local children; DFS to distribute

The council received an informational presentation about a community donation of pool passes. Mayor Adobe said the Torrington Shrine Club purchased $400 worth of individual pool passes (at $3 each), which equates to about 133 passes, to be distributed to children who might otherwise not be able to use the municipal pool.

Shay Bates, speaking for the Torrington Shrine Club, said the organization aims to help children and families and noted the Shriners’ broader charitable mission. Raff Breedlove, representing the Department of Family Services, thanked the Shriner club and said DFS will identify eligible children and families and handle distribution.

The council thanked the donors and offered to take a photo. This was presented as an information item; no council action was required.

What’s next: DFS will distribute the passes to identified families and staff will coordinate a photo opportunity or recognition with donors.
