The Harpswell Select Board agreed June 18 to amend the POTS dock policy to allow commercial dinghies up to 16 feet in length. Harbourmaster Darcy Kutcher explained the float redesign added a third float and that two commercial applicants (Scott Merriman and Jamie Crossman) have applied for permits. Staff advised 16 feet as a maximum after consulting on stability concerns; an earlier request for up to 19 feet was rejected for safety reasons.
A select board member moved to add Darcy's language to paragraph c of the policy; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff will update the posted policy and notify permit holders when the change is effective. Board members noted the town has a limited number of commercial permits for the site and that any future overcrowding will require additional policy review.
