Select Board accepts dry-hydrant easement and renews two emergency vehicle leases

The Harpswell Select Board accepted a donated easement June 18 for a new dry hydrant on Bethel Point Road; voters had authorized the board to accept the easement on Nov. 4, 2025. The town administrator reported that property owners signed the easement and a written contractor quote is being prepared; the estimated installation cost discussed was $18,000–$20,000. The board approved accepting the easement and expects to consider a sole-source contract with Weber & Sons to install the hydrant when a formal quote is received.

At the same meeting the board also renewed two vehicle leases with Harpswell Neck Fire & Rescue — for an ambulance and a pumper truck — both previously purchased with bond funding. The president of Harpswell Neck signed the updated leases that day and the board voted to continue the leases.

Board members noted vehicle ages (2011 and 2015 model years referenced) and that planning for future replacement will continue as part of capital equipment planning.
