Advisory committee flags graphics, broken links and assigns re‑reviews for healthy relationships modules

Beaufort County’s Health Advisory Committee reviewed Module 6 of the Lowcountry Virtual course, identified a graphic inconsistency and other minor edits, and parceled outstanding lesson reviews among members so updates can be ready for the academic committee.

Miss Glaze told the group that module 6.01 (fighting abuse) should explicitly state that types of abuse (financial, mental, verbal, cultural, physical) can occur outside of school — in homes and places of worship — and recommended the module reflect those contexts so students recognize abuse beyond school settings.

Constance, a health advisory committee member and health professional, said module 6.02 (protecting yourself from abuse) used direct, universal language and the videos were age‑appropriate and aligned with South Carolina law. “The information was very direct, and it uses language that is universal,” she said.

Members identified a formatting issue in module 6.03: the lesson text lists four boundaries but the on‑screen graphic displayed five circles. Amy Pryor and other members suggested a simple graphic overlay (a text box covering the fifth circle) or replacing the image so the visual matches the four boundary types; Cindy Ambrose offered to log into the online course and make edits where feasible.

Committee members confirmed they could edit the online modules directly and agreed to check that interactive self‑check questions are accessible. The group reassigned the outstanding sections (605, 701, 702, 703, 704, 705) among members and planned a follow‑up HAC meeting July 20 so revised content can be forwarded to the academic committee July 21 and, if approved, to the school board on August 4. No formal vote took place because the committee did not have a quorum.
