Redevelopment Commission approves two property transfers, corrects Memorial address

The Redevelopment Commission on June 18 approved several property actions intended to advance housing rehabilitation and reduce blight.

Commissioners approved a motion to transfer 507 South Proud to either Intend (the developer) or the Muncie Land Bank to enable completion of the Old West End Ready project. Staff described a subrecipient agreement and REDI/Ready2 grant context and said the transfer will allow the developer to complete renovations on approximately 30 homes associated with the project.

Separately, the commission approved transferring a Memorial Street property to the current resident. Staff and commissioners clarified an address discrepancy: minutes and prior motions referred to 1912 East Memorial, but the property and the action pertain to 1904 East Memorial. The body amended its prior action to reflect the correct property address.

Commissioners were told staff inspected the Memorial property and confirmed it is safe for occupancy; the commission emphasized it is not the taxing authority and did not assume ongoing tax liabilities by approving the transfer.

The commission took no action to transfer other properties at this meeting and deferred some land‑bank coordination details to staff and the land bank.
