The Miami Lakes Veterans Committee agreed to co-host a fishing tournament fundraiser proposed by the Chamber of Commerce, with the Chamber leading organization and sponsorship while the committee lends its name and promotional support.
Chair (S1) described a low-cost concept developed informally by committee members and Chamber contacts: the committee would be the beneficiary and would assist with promotion but would not contribute town funds. "So a motion to co host this fishing tournament... we're co hosting," the Chair said; the committee seconded and approved the motion by voice vote.
Members clarified expectations: the Chamber would lead logistics and secure sponsors and prizes; the committee would provide promotion through town channels and act as the event beneficiary (receiving proceeds), not as a monetary sponsor. Committee members noted a similar Father's Day fishing event draws roughly 45–50 participants and suggested the new tournament could have multiple prize categories and family-friendly classes.
The committee asked the Chamber to finalize planning details and to report back with dates and sponsorship commitments; no specific event date was set at the meeting. Staff and members emphasized the need to coordinate with the council if formal town support or use of town resources beyond promotion is required.
