Resident urges action after sustained homeless encampment near Butler Drive; county promises follow‑up

Bonnie Williams, a resident and homeowner on Butler Drive in Brunswick, told the Glynn County Board of Commissioners during public comment on June 18 that a persistent homeless encampment at the old Pickrick Acid site adjacent to I‑95 has become a hazard for her neighborhood.

Williams described repeated incidents including people trespassing, taking building materials and shopping carts, drug use and prostitution, unclothed people running in the neighborhood at night, and a near‑robbery outside a driveway. She said neighbors are older and afraid and that county roadside debris pickup being deferred until January worsens the situation by leaving material the encampment occupants treat as "giveaways." Williams asked for guidance on who to contact and what help is available.

Commissioner Rafalski said the sheriff's office has broken up the camp once or twice; Chair acknowledged multiple calls and told Williams the board would respond with information in the next day or so about actions involving the police and the assistant county manager. The board did not announce specific enforcement steps during the meeting.

Because Williams is requesting county follow‑up, staff and the sheriff's office are the appropriate next contacts; the board's pledge to follow up leaves the substantive enforcement outcome unresolved pending staff action.
