Magistrate orders repair or demolition permits for three unfit mobile homes at 4220 Brandon Road

Code enforcement documented three unfit or unsafe mobile homes and unscreened personal property at 4220 Brandon Road (Bayou George) and the magistrate ordered the respondent to obtain demolition permits or submit full building-permit applications within 30 days.

Investigators Tony Burney and Scott Thorpe said one unit was a total loss from a 2025 fire and others exhibited missing blocking, broken strapping, unpermitted roof overs and unsecured additions. Inspector Thorpe said staff could not complete inspections in some areas because of a dangerous dog and limited cooperation from the property owner.

Owner Chris Smith told the magistrate he was trying to remove two mobile homes and described foreclosure-related obstacles that limit his ability to obtain permits until title issues are resolved. Magistrate Bill Lewis reviewed statutory repair and permit requirements, required manufacturer or structural specifications for permitted repairs, and explained that obtaining a demolition or building permit followed by the required inspections within permit windows will be deemed compliance; failing that, the county may abate and the costs will become liens on the property.

The magistrate set a compliance hearing for Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. and advised the owner to contact county staff for contractor lists and permit guidance.
