Clerk reports modest sales-tax gain; fire and police give monthly activity updates

City Clerk Malaney Slack presented the city's financial report and said April 2026 sales tax totaled $799,823, up from $772,503 in April 2025 — a 3.54% increase driven by motor-vehicle and retail sales. She also reported $12,197 in delinquent payments and told the council the audit has been submitted to the state, with auditors expected to schedule a site visit in August.

Fire Chief Brian Williams reported that in June the fire department responded to 5 emergency fire calls, 6 public-service calls, 5 rescue calls, 10 false alarms and 8 fire alarms, for a total of 34 alarms. He noted staffing changes, upcoming training and a Sept. 14 site visit for the city's fire-rating inspection.

Police Chief Gary McIver presented and the council accepted the police report for May 2026; he added June statistics during his remarks, saying the department logged 61 total arrests, 44 traffic accidents, 1,430 calls for service and 8 animal calls for the month.

Council accepted the reports by unanimous vote. The city will proceed with audit scheduling and department follow-ups as described by staff.
