Resident’s requested sound‑barrier fence referred to planning and zoning for review

Council discussed a request by resident Natalie Howard for a variance to install a sound‑barrier fence near her property. Council members and staff explained the issue belongs first with the planning and zoning commission, which must review setbacks, sight triangles and code compliance before the council takes any final action.

Committee member (S2) described acceptable fence alignments and told the council he had met with the applicant to explain safety and code constraints, saying the fence could run from the northeast corner of the house east to the property line but must avoid obstructing sight triangles. He also noted that ADA or other special circumstances could be raised in planning and zoning.

Council members agreed to put the item on the planning and zoning agenda (the third Tuesday, two weeks out) and to include the town attorney and ADA considerations for any requested exceptions. The council did not grant a variance at the July 7 meeting; instead, members instructed staff to send the application to planning and zoning for formal review.
