Norwood trustees direct staff to pursue townwide 15 mph default speed limit

The Norwood Board of Trustees voted July 8 to direct staff to proceed with drafting an ordinance that would establish a townwide default speed limit of 15 miles per hour on all town streets unless otherwise posted.

Trustees discussed how a 15 mph default would interact with the state highway that runs through town and whether CDOT must approve or post the signs at the town limits. Board members noted enforcement considerations and sign costs, and public-works staff reported they had ordered 15-mph signs. Trustee Michael Grady and others said the change would improve safety near schools, parks and construction zones.

The board made a motion to proceed (consideration stage rather than final adoption); the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote. Staff will research CDOT procedures for highway signage, prepare a draft ordinance and a package with cost estimates and maps for a subsequent meeting.
