Meeting approves minutes and invoices, hears Crossville facility construction update

A local meeting in July approved routine business and received a construction update for a Crossville facility that staff said is on track for ownership transfer on Jan. 11.

The Chair moved to approve the previous meeting minutes; a member made the motion, it was seconded, and the Chair called for and received a voice affirmative. The group then reviewed invoices sent earlier to members, moved to approve them, and likewise recorded a voice affirmative.

The staff member who gave the construction report said crews are installing framing for windows and that “all the sheetrock and interior walls was delivered,” signaling the start of interior work. The staff member added, “We actually take ownership of the building on January 11,” and said that if the date stands the site will have scheduled windows for moving in and for limited public tours before full opening.

On programming and outreach, the staff member said public interest has been strong via Facebook and phone inquiries, including contacts at Fairfield Lane and local YMCAs. The staff member proposed launching a learn-to-swim program in August 2027 and said athletic-department contacts and a coordinator named Pepe will help set that up.

Financially, the Chair reported that construction is proceeding and that a ‘‘healthy amount’’ remains in the contingency; no dollar figures were provided.

Members coordinated a walkthrough for Thursday at 1:00 p.m., with the caveat that the schedule may shift if Councilman Mayberry’s funeral is set for that time. A member moved to adjourn near 12:04 p.m.; the motion passed by voice vote.
