Worth County supervisors approve $422,509 in drainage assessments, allow payment plans for large parcels

The Worth County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution on July 6 levying $422,509 in assessments against lands in multiple county drainage districts and authorized a payment option for landowners with parcel assessments exceeding $500.

The board, meeting July 6, passed Resolution 2026-24 on a motion by Supervisor Mark Smeby and a second from Vice Chairperson Aaron Stone; both members voted "Aye." The resolution lists assessments for specific drainage districts, including DD 14 Lower Main at $187,696, DD 14 Upper Main at $36,040, DD 14 Lat 4 Tile at $36,791 and several smaller district assessments, with a total of $422,509 to be collected with property taxes for 2026.

The resolution directs that the assessments be extended in accordance with the original apportionment and classification and collected with 2026 property taxes. It also allows a payment plan for landowners whose parcel amount due exceeds $500; property owners must contact the Worth County Auditor within 30 days of receipt of the tax statement to discuss that option. The resolution is recorded in the meeting material as Resolution 2026-24.

The board also approved a claims payment of $50,301.82 to Greenfield Contractors (listed in the claims schedule as Service-CAP) on a motion by Smeby and second from Stone. The board accepted the sheriff’s monthly and quarterly reports, authorized the ICAP FY2026/2027 renewal authorization, and approved a cost estimate from Chosen Valley Testing for a design-phase geotechnical evaluation recommended by Veenstra & Kimm, Inc.

Jacki A. Backhaus, Worth County Auditor, attested to the meeting record; signatures on the record list Aaron Stone as vice chairperson. The board adjourned at 9:07 a.m.

The items approved were routine county business recorded in the July 6 meeting minutes; the auditor’s office will include the assessments on the 2026 tax statements and handle inquiries about payment plans.
