Cecilton staff report wastewater, water plants compliant for January; MDE filings complete and annexation talks resurfaces

Town staff reported Feb. 17 that Cecilton's wastewater and water treatment plants were compliant for January after scheduled maintenance and minor winterization work.

Jordan Smith and Heather Perry told the Mayor and Council the influent wet well at the wastewater plant was cleaned and its level transducer serviced, effluent chemical lines were re-routed in PVC to prevent freezing, and routine monthly maintenance tasks were completed. Staff also completed and submitted the town's annual sewer capacity management report to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and applied for a temporary sewage-sludge hauling permit related to the digester.

The water plant experienced a high flow month in January but staff reported operations remained in compliance for that reporting period.

Chris Rogers of engineering firm AECOM told the council he had been contacted by McCrone on behalf of a private landowner, Jake Van Wingerden, who wants to revisit an earlier annexation. Rogers said he informed Administrator Cooper and attended the meeting so the council would know the conversation has begun; the council took no formal action on annexation at the session.

No vote or directive on annexation was recorded; the items reported on operations and MDE filings were informational and did not require immediate council action.
