Village awards 1982 reappraisal contract to Laird Appraisals

The Village of Sherwood voted in February to hire Laird Appraisals to conduct a village-wide reappraisal, a step officials said is intended to update property values and ensure assessments reflect recent changes.

The board reviewed three bids — Action Appraisers ($4,900), Bowmar Appraisals ($5,900) and Laird Appraisals ($4,200 for 436 parcels). Trustee Randy Michiels moved to accept Laird’s bid and Jake Mueller seconded; a roll-call vote recorded unanimous approval. Carlyle Christensen of Laird explained the company would visit properties, coordinate with the assessor, mail assessment notices, set up informal hearing appointments and assist at the Board of Review, with work scheduled to be finished by July 15, 1982.

Trustees said they would check references and requested additional bids be sought earlier in the year; trustee discussion noted a Brillion reassessment had raised concerns but that Laird ultimately completed that work to the assessor’s satisfaction. The board also approved associated postage and administrative support lists the village must supply, including property record cards and labels.

The revaluation will trigger mailed notices and an open-book/informal hearing process ahead of the Board of Review; residents were told specific hearing dates would be posted with assessment notices. The board did not amend the contractor’s basic scope at the meeting.
