Sherwood adopts High Cliff zoning map after public hearing

After a public hearing on Sept. 14, 1982, the Village of Sherwood Board voted to accept the planning commission’s zoning map for the annexed High Cliff area, a decision trustees said balances conservancy and residential uses while allowing space for measured growth.

Frank Schneider and other residents raised questions about why all 18 holes of the local golf course were not zoned conservancy; planning staff explained that excessive conservancy acreage would eliminate base value and reduce the village’s tax roll. Speakers including Bill Engler and Dennis Coleman urged zoning consistent with present land use and suggested the Planning Commission consider one-family zoning classifications.

At the September meeting the board moved and seconded acceptance of the zoning map; a roll-call vote passed 5–0. Trustees directed the Planning Commission to consider R1-a (one-family) and R1-b (two-family) classifications for future refinement and noted that changes may be made through the Planning Commission process.
