Board backs Legion Park plan including permanent rodeo arena; Lions to review design

At its April meeting the Village Board approved a revised park plan for Legion Park that includes a permanent rodeo arena, following a presentation from Fred Scharnke of the East Central Wisconsin Planning Commission.

Scharnke said the revised plan moved the rodeo site east to accommodate playgrounds, ballfields and parking. David Petrie, Lions chairman of the Little Britches Rodeo, had proposed a 140-by-210-foot arena with cedar supports and lighting; the Lions indicated willingness to put up fencing and to remove the arena if it is not used regularly over five years. Trustees approved the plan and asked Randy Michiels to take the design to the Lions for final approval. The board also discussed park infrastructure such as water and sewer lines to the site and suggested refundable retainer and insurance requirements for user groups.

Separately, trustees discussed bids and contracts to level and improve park grounds; the board recommended obtaining a contract and confirmed that user groups would be responsible for cleanup and required insurance.
