Bennet council adopts SS4A Safety Action Plan and signals pursuit of grant funding

The City Council of Bennet, Nebraska, adopted the SS4A Bennet Safety Action Plan on Jan. 19, approving Resolution 2026-1.1 after a presentation on the final report.

Presenter Kyle McLaughlin provided an overview of the plan and raised the possibility of applying for federal or state grants to fund implementation steps. Council members discussed funding options and the need for follow-up work to move from planning to projects.

Council member Pete Simmons moved to adopt Resolution 2026-1.1, and Council member Dan Zieg seconded the motion. The roll call vote was YES: Jesse Schmidt, Pete Simmons, Dan Zieg and Josh Buck; the motion carried.

The plan’s adoption authorizes staff to pursue funding and next steps; council members emphasized that specific implementation budgets and timelines will be developed later and contingent on grant awards or other identified funding sources. No dollar amounts for implementation were specified during the meeting.
