Willis Lincoln Hardaway sworn in for 93rd District, vows bipartisanship

Representative Willis Lincoln Hardaway was sworn into the Tennessee General Assembly as the representative for the 93rd Representative District in a brief ceremony that concluded with his pledge to pursue bipartisanship.

The oath of office was administered by the Honorable Judge Rachel Bell, who instructed Hardaway to place his left hand on the Bible and raise his right hand before asking him to repeat the oath to “faithfully support the constitution of this state and the United States” and to vote without “favor, affection, partiality, or prejudice.” After Hardaway repeated the oath, Judge Bell said, “You’re duly sworn.”

Clerk (the presiding official) introduced Hardaway to the well and invited him to speak. At the lectern, Hardaway referenced his late father and family and said he intends to make bipartisanship his priority. “To the people who are trying to divide us, enough,” he said. He closed his remarks by acknowledging the legacy of Representative Hardaway Sr.

The ceremony was short and procedural; after the remarks the presiding official declared the purpose of the gathering fulfilled and adjourned the event.
