Story City council approves permits, appointments and event closure; discusses cameras and a sewer responsibility question

At its July 7 meeting the Story City Council approved several routine permits, appointments and local actions and discussed a public-safety item without taking action.

The council approved a liquor license application for Kwik Star, 1704 Broad St. (motion by Abrams, seconded by Phillips); approved a tax abatement for Anthony and Jackie Stockdale at 907 Henryson St. (motion by Phillips, seconded by Solberg); and approved a request from Reliance State Bank to close Pennsylvania Avenue from Broad Street to South Alley on Sept. 9 (motion by Ostrem, seconded by Phillips). Each motion was recorded as carried 4-0.

Mayor Jensen recommended appointing Jennifer Goebel and Jessica Miller to the Library Board of Trustees; the council approved those appointments on a motion by Ostrem, seconded by Abrams. The council also approved appointing a student representative as an ex‑officio member (motion by Phillips, seconded by Ostrem).

Council members discussed the use of cameras in high-risk locations with department heads; the transcript records discussion only and no formal policy or action was taken. During non-agenda comments Council Member Ostrem asked about sewer repairs in Randall; Administrator Jackson replied that the city of Randall is responsible for their repairs, though they also pay Story City for sewer service.

The council approved bills and claims on a motion by Ostrem, seconded by Phillips, and adjourned at 6:57 p.m.
