The Lawton City Council approved a 30-day temporary stay of demolition for a structure at 2211 Northwest Baltimore Avenue after staff reported community outreach in support of preserving the property. Council first voted to waive the rules of Council Policy 1-06, Section 5(e) to allow consideration within a six-month time frame; that procedural waiver passed 7-0. John, a city staff member presenting the item, said the structure had been declared dilapidated on 03/25/2025, that the city clerk received a request for a stay on 04/08/2026, and that the council had considered a prior request on 04/28/2026 and had denied it. "Staff is seeking direction from the council to provide additional 30 days," John said. Following discussion, a motion to approve the 30-day stay was made, seconded and carried on a 7-0 vote.
The council acknowledged that the ward councilmember for the property was not present but had recommended the 30-day stay. The city recorded no further conditions or required reporting deadlines in the meeting minutes beyond the 30-day extension and did not adopt an ordinance or other permanent restriction during the meeting.
