Ashe County OKs $552,090 amendment for Riverview Community Center repairs

The Ashe County Board of Commissioners approved a $552,090 amendment to the Department of Public Buildings budget to fund repairs at the Riverview Community Center.

Patty, the presenter for the item, told the board, “These funds are already in hand from a combination of insurance FEMA and OSMB grant, and they are all dedicated to Riverview projects.” The amendment increases the department appropriation from $3,226,177 to $3,778,267 and will be funded by $445,772 from the general fund balance (insurance proceeds and FEMA reimbursements) and a $106,318 Office of State Budget and Management grant award received 01/13/2026.

County staff and commissioners noted that the work — which includes HVAC and electrical design among other repairs — will not begin until after July 1, 2026, so the projects must be rebudgeted into the next fiscal period. The chair described the first item as a technical but necessary adjustment to prevent a funding gap.

The motion to increase the appropriation was made, seconded and approved without extended discussion.

The board did not set a start date for construction and directed that the projects be rebudgeted and scheduled consistent with county procurement and project timelines.
