Sherwood approves Knight Drive extension contract, clears path for Upper Wanick Park access

The Village of Sherwood Board voted to award the Knight Drive extension construction contract to David Tenor Corporation for $662,999.55, moving the long‑running Upper Wanick Park access project into the construction phase.

The project has been the subject of repeated reviews, engineering options and property negotiations across 2011. Board and Plan Commission meetings tracked multiple design options (Options A–E); the board directed preliminary engineering in June and later engaged McMahon for topographic and design services. Negotiations with adjacent property owners (Legacy Communications and Outpost) produced negotiated terms for right‑of‑way, partial land swaps and special assessment formulas. The board recorded approvals contingent on required certified survey map recording and DNR permitting.

At the Nov. 28 meeting engineer Jennifer Schaff recommended awarding the contract and the board approved the award contingent on final CSM recording and receipt of necessary permits. The board also adopted a resolution establishing preliminary special assessments for benefited properties and specified limited deferral terms for two Smet parcels until services are requested.

The Knight Drive extension is intended to improve direct vehicular and pedestrian access to Upper Wanick Park and to facilitate future commercial development consistent with the Village’s comprehensive plan. Implementation steps now include permit acquisition, recording of the CSM, contractor mobilization and follow‑up reporting to the board on construction schedule and final assessment calculations.
