Daniel council denies rezoning request for 1680 West 3000 South

The Daniel Town Council voted on July 6 to deny a rezoning request for 1680 West 3000 South, rejecting a proposal to change the parcel from RA-5 (residential agricultural) to commercial.

Property owner John Call told the council the request was meant to bring the parcel into line with other properties already designated commercial inside an airport safety/buffer area. "We're just looking for consistency, not spot zoning," Call said, explaining that the parcel had received a commercial designation in 2017 and that airport-related planning has since altered the long-term context for surrounding properties. Neighbor Fred Bensler spoke in favor of the change.

After closing the public hearing, a councilmember moved to deny the rezoning request; the motion was seconded and passed on a recorded vote. The council recorded five "yes" votes in favor of denial and no recorded "no" votes. The council did not adopt the requested rezoning, leaving the property at its current RA-5 designation.

The council did not indicate any immediate next steps for the property owner other than the usual avenues for future applications or appeals.
