Daniel council approves up to $15,000 for pump house repairs; SCADA upgrade deferred

The Daniel Town Council approved spending of up to $15,000 from the water fund to repair and update equipment at the municipal pump house, including replacement of gauges, check valves and other worn components.

Town staff presented a scope of work with an estimated cost range of $5,000 to $15,000 and recommended prioritizing immediate, wear-item repairs. The mayor said the request is to "approve $15,000 out of the water fund" to allow staff to pick priority items without returning for incremental approvals; staff confirmed the mayor can authorize $5,000 increments but sought council concurrence to cover the full prioritized scope.

Council and staff discussed a full SCADA replacement that had been bid at about $114,000; council members agreed that the SCADA upgrade is a larger capital project and not necessary immediately, so the $15,000 maintenance authorization was approved and the SCADA decision deferred for future consideration.

A motion to approve the maintenance spending passed on a recorded vote. Staff will prioritize check valves and failed measurement devices and return to council if further funds beyond $15,000 are needed.
