Comprehensive Plan update delayed; seven public hearings to be readvertised and rescheduled

The Fluvanna County Planning Commission was told on June 9 that completion of the county’s Comprehensive Plan update will be delayed by an estimated four to six months while planning staff await the results of the Thomas Jefferson PFC Regional Housing Study, now expected in the first quarter of 2027.

Todd Fortune, the county’s director of planning, said the housing section of the plan depends on the regional study’s results; staff will continue reviewing other plan sections while the housing section is finalized. The Commission also learned that seven public hearings scheduled for June 9 could not be heard because the Fluvanna Review was unable to publish legal notices meeting the county’s public-notice requirements. The hearings must be readvertised in a newspaper that meets legal notice standards and have been tentatively rescheduled for July 7, 2026.

The Commission voted to adopt the June 9 agenda with all public hearings stricken in order to comply with notice requirements; that motion carried 5-0. The minutes show the Commission approved minutes from May 12, 2026 (recorded vote 4-0, one abstention). Staff also reported the Planner/GIS Technician position has been advertised and applications are being accepted.

The readvertising requirement means items slated for public hearing will return to the agenda after proper notice; no hearings were heard on June 9.
